High Mighty Kailash

Mansarovar is the world’s highest freshwater lake. The lake is located at the southern foot of Mt. Kailash. Lake Mansarovar has exceptional beauty that varies from Crystal clear blue water near the shores and a deep emerald green colour at the centre. The holy lake is one of the important pilgrimages for Hindus and Buddhists. As per the Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lake Mansarovar was formed by Lord Brahma. Mt. Kailash is known as one of the sacred mountains and has become an important pilgrim.

Mount Kailash is amazing and incredible, It appears as GOD creates it by own hand. Mount Kailash is said to be the source of some of the longest rivers in Asia: Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra and Karnali River. It is considered a sacred place in four religions – Bon, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva resides at the Summit of this legendary mountain.

 

Places of Interest-

Gauri Kund- Gauri Kund lies at an altitude of 5608 Mtrs. Popularly known as Parvati Sarovar. According to Shiva Purana, Maa Parvati came to this kund for bath and it is said to be the birthplace of Ganesha. Travellers see this kund during parikrama of Mount Kailash.

Rakshas Tal- Rakshas Tal lies near the west of Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash.  It is associated with king Ravana, the King of Rakshas, because of that this lake is known as Rakshas Tal. Its water is salty and the colour of this lake is black.

Astapad- Astapad means eight steps, It is believed that Mount Kailash is surrounded by eight smaller mountains making it a lotus shape with eight petals. A visit will definitely worth, as you will get a fabulous view of the south face of Kailash and Nandi Mountain sitting in front of it. Astapad excursion is included in the Mount Kailash Inner Kora Programme.
